Let’s Go Green Together

So lately I’ve been trying to think of ways to “go green”, and I started something I’d like to share with you all.  I’ve been collecting glass bottles and using them around the house- they look very unique, and I actually think they look nice.

I put a few stones at the bottom of each one (I have TONS), and then filled it up with water and a few drops of flower food, and added the flowers- pretty simple.  For those of you who don’t have any or don’t want to buy it, here is a simple recipe for flower food:

1 tsp. sugar; 1 tsp. bleach; 2 tsp. lemon or lime juice (fresh is best).  I mixed mine with some water, put it in a plastic water bottle (go green!), and I keep it under my sink.  That way, you can keep using it.

When you put it in the vase with your flowers, you’ll need to change out the water every so often- whenever it turns colors (always a bad sign haha) or when it gets down to about half full.  Or half empty, depending on your philosophical outlook :)

So that’s that!  I’ll be back soon with more ways to use glass bottles.  In the meantime, enjoy sprucing up your homes with some flowers while saving the environment!

Organizing Jewelry for the New Year

One big to-do I have for 2014 is to organize myself.  Anyone who knows me will know that I am not, by any means, a “neat” person- not by far.  But, I’m trying.  I’ll be posting different methods I test out as I go along, so stay tuned!

The first thing I tried- jewelry organizing.  Surprisingly, I wasn’t actually that bad off to begin with- I have a spinning earring holder and two cute boxes for bracelets.  The main issue was necklaces.  I had them all just thumb-tacked to my wall, which wasn’t too bad, but wasn’t visually appealing either.

I was doing some major Pinterest surfing yesterday, and I saw a hanger used as a jewelry organizer.  I decided to try it out, and I think it works pretty well.  It doesn’t hold ALL of my jewelry, but it does hold all of my necklaces which is what I was looking for.  It looks a lot better than it did previously, also.

What do you think?  Leave your opinion down below, as well as any ideas :)
